Indiana State University - Online Certificate in Teaching English as Second / Foreign Language is a graduate certification program. A student completing this program can teach English as a Second Language (TESL) or English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The main courses of 12 credit hours include Language Differences and Linguistic Universals, Language Acquisition, English Syntax, and Teaching English as a Second Language. Each of these courses is of 3 credit hours.

Applied Experience Requirements can be fulfilled by meeting any of the following conditions: Two years of study experience of a non-native language; or 3-month minimum experience of living in a non-native culture; or 3-month minimum ESL/EFL teaching or cross-cultural experience.

A student needs to possess a baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution and also fulfill the requirements of minimum cumulative grade point average to get admission in this course. A student can complete this program entirely by distance education mode.
