Middle / Secondary Teaching Certificate- ISU

Indiana State University - Online Certificate in Middle / Secondary Teaching program consisting of 18 credit hours is designed for the candidates who wish to earn a middle / secondary licensure (grade 6-12) in any one of the subjects of language, literature, and linguistics; Business; family consumer sciences; health; industrial technology education; language arts; mathematics; science; and social studies.

The Core Courses of 15 credit hours include Development Through the Lifespan, Diversity and Disability in Today's Schools, Student Teaching, Curriculum and Philosophy of Secondary Schools, Instructional Strategies in Secondary Schools, and Promoting Student Development in Secondary Schools.

The Content Methods Course of 2-3 credits includes methods of teaching in the content specialization.

This program gives a student the opportunity to learn in details about teaching pedagogy and adolescent development. He/ she also needs to complete required fieldwork and gain student teaching experience under the supervision of university faculty.

A student can apply to teach the subjects of his specialization in the middle school, junior high school, and senior high schools after completion of this program.
