Department of Homeland Security was created by the US government after 9/11 events. The main task of this department is to work for the security of all the states of the country and its citizens. Creation of this department generated demand for skilled professionals not only in the government sector but in private sector as well. Due to huge demand for professionals in homeland security field, many universities have started Homeland Security Program to train students for this profession. During these programs, students gain detailed knowledge about terrorism issues, emergency management, maritime security, and supply chain security. They also learn about security issues related to corporate sector, technology, aviation industry, etc., in detail.

Breyer State University - Online Master of Homeland Security program consists of 52 semester hours. The courses include Understanding Terrorism Today (4 hrs), Homeland Security (4 hrs), Emergency Management Issues (4 hrs), Corporate Security Post 9/11 Era (4 hrs), Information Technology Security (4 hrs), Advanced Security Issues (4 hrs), Maritime Security (4 hrs), Aviation Security (4 hrs), Supply Chain Security (4 hrs), Issues in Terrorism (4 hrs) and Homeland Security Graduate Project (12 hrs).
A student gets 10 weeks’ time to complete an online course. If a student wants the time limit to be extended, permission of the instructor is required. A bachelor degree in criminal justice, or a closely related field is required for getting admission in this program. The program allows students to transfer college credits/ courses earned previously during their college programs to this program.
Career Options Available for a Master of Homeland Security
A student after completing masters degree in homeland security can work as homeland security agent, public security manager, counter terrorism consultant, and security analyst. Some other options include working as border patrol officer, private security consultant, and security director.
