A career in Christian counseling is best for the individuals who wish to combine their faith and interest in counseling. This form of counseling integrates emotional care and Christian beliefs to provide relief to the patients. A person interested in becoming a Christian counselor should have a strong commitment and knowledge of basic foundational Christian beliefs. A number of universities now offer bachelor degree programs in Christian counseling. During these programs, students are given detailed knowledge about general psychology, Christian counseling, counseling theory, ethics and counseling laws. They are also taught about marriage counseling, child and adolescent counseling, adult development counseling, and world religions.
Breyer State University - Online Bachelor in Christian Counseling
Breyer State University - Online Bachelor in Christian Counseling program gives students comprehensive theological, psychological and biblical education. This program is being offered as a combined bachelors/ master degree program consisting of 147 semester hours.
Two tracks are available for the students in this program: Catholic Doctorine Theme Track and Christian Non-Denominational Theme Track. The common courses in two tracks include: General Psychology (6 hrs), Christian Counseling I (10 hrs), Counseling Theory and Practice (6 hrs), Christian Counseling II (10 hrs), Child and Adolescent Christian Counseling (8 hrs), Adult Development and Aging (8 hrs), and Marriage and Family Counseling Christian Perspective (8 hrs).
The Courses in Catholic Doctorine Theme Track include: Introduction to Scripture (10 hrs), Old Testament Themes (10 hrs), Gospel Themes (10 hrs), and Epistle Themes (10 hrs).
The courses in Christian Non-Denominational Theme Track include: Old Testament I (10 hrs), Old Testament II (10 hrs), New Testament I - Gospels (10 hrs), and New Testament II (10 hrs).
A student after completing these courses can opt to complete the master level courses to earn a masters degree.
A student gets 10 weeks’ time to complete an online course. The program allows students to transfer college credits/ courses earned previously during their college programs to this program.
Career Options Available for a Bachelor of Christian Counseling
A student after completing this program can work as a director of worship, director of church services, Christian counselor, or Christian missionary. He/ she can also work as a youth pastor, youth counselor, or pastoral assistant. A student can also set up his/ her own practice to offer services to the community.
