ATSU was originally established as Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in the year 1892 by Andrew Taylor Still. It was the first medical college in the world concentrating on Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Taylor invented the technique of osteopathy that relies on diagnosis and treatment based upon manipulating the joints and bones. This model of medicine is very well accepted in many countries across the world. Since its inception, KCOM has grown into a full-fledge university with five institutions coming under it viz: Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, School of Health Management, Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, Arizona School of Health Sciences.
The university has two campuses in Kirksville, MO (Rural) and Mesa, AZ (Urban). ATSU has a total full-time staff of more than 270 and a student enrollment of about 2000.
